Anticipating Client Needs for a Marketing Activation
This specific system, purchased for a marketing activation at a major sporting event, allows the staff and stagehands at In Depth Events to provide audience observation platforms, as well as load bearing capabilities, at 10’ above ground level. In this case, “load bearing capabilities” meant lifting supercars 10’ off the ground and placing them on our new staging and scaffolding for display!
Providing the engineering necessary for such a task involved careful planning with the manufacturer. Our relationship with the amazing and talented sales rep for Bil-Jax, Wendy Williams, as well as the design skills of Bil-Jax’s own Earl Bechtol, allowed us the ability to take concept drawings and make them into CAD designs with the stock items needed to complete such a feat of engineering. During several revisions, the combined team at Bil-Jax and In Depth Events worked toward a solution that would provide the load requirements, as well as the look and feel the client required.
Load in – Building our New Scaffolding System and Waiting for Vehicle Placement
The final scope of the project included two platforms that needed to be used for vehicle display as well as VIP seating. Because these two platforms were for attendees, step units and handrails had to be built to exacting specifications to match building code and ADA requirements. Then, add a car on each end, and things get complicated!
When we arrived on site, load in was delayed by bad weather. However, our logistics staff plans for every contingency, and our stagehands and site managers made sure we hit our marks. Our new scaffolding and new AS-2100 panels were a quick build. Then, the moment of truth – to place the cars on the platforms.
We asked Wendy to join us on site while the cars were placed on the deck, and she graciously agreed. The entire building crew from the activation (and from several other booths) watched as the two vehicles were lifted on to the platforms and placed 10 feet in the air. The scaffolding and deck never even flinched – it was a flawless placement. The event ran for another three days, but for the In Depth Events staging and site management crew, the real work was done – at least until load out!
The Bil-Jax AS-2100 Staging and Scaffolding is Now Ready for Your Rental Needs
After transporting back to our warehouse in Texas, this new system is ready for staging and event rental to our other clients. The new 4’x8’ panels will be used for clients needing stages for sports and dance events, multi-level seating risers, audience seating risers, as well as staging rentals that require extreme load bearing or elevation needs.
